Sallys Haul
when will me endless money blowing on girly stuff end? GEESH. i really need to budget myself...or try never leaving my house lol. i went to pick up my contacts today and i decided to stop by sallys since it was on my way home. i initially went in there for a nail polish thinner because i have a couple polishes that are thickening up. i really need to stick to my plan A lol. as soon as i walked in there i was WOW'ed because they now have a whole wall just for nail art stuff, how could i resist?!!!! there were a million and one things i wanted to get BUT i took a deep breather and told myself "you can always come back next week for more" lmao. so these were my chosen few....
yes, i went a little nail art crazy, but what can a girl do?
i also found the perfect chocolate brown color that i have been looking for everywhere! i had a mani done at the salon and i got this gorgeous brown color; but i couldnt find a brown like it anywhere ....till now!! its by finger paints; dont know the name off the top of my head but if you want to know just askkkk away.
i also FINALLY found a dotter!! i've been looking like crazy for one of these puppies but sally always seems to be sold out -angry face- so there were two left and i wasnt going to let history repeat itself! i needed it now!
the dotter also has a detailing brush on the other side; hmm double yay! all in all today was a very successful purchase day! lol im going to give myself an adorable manicure and pedicure today; and i shall post up pictures tomorrow!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GIRLLLLLL GO GET SOME NAIL ART GOODIES FROM SALLYS!!

Nail Art
This post is so long over due! i think i made a post like this BUT it wasn't very detailed, and i don't think i showed any examples; it was when the blog was first starting, so i figured I'd do another one. i really hate that blogspot doesn't capitalize the first word of sentences because I'm truly too forgetful and technology dependant to sit here and hit caps lock every single time I'm starting a new sentence lol. maybe I'll type this somewhere else and then just copy and paste it into here. isn't it sad how much we rely on technology to do all the work for us? lol ANYWAYS; back to this post. i don't always have the time to get a mani/pedi at the salon; so for the most part i have TONS of stuff here at home. i must have at least 100 and something nail polishes; shoot i could probably start a nail salon right here at home lol. as far as nail designs go, I've tried some different approaches, and I'm going to share some of them with you guys.
Alternative A; is acrylic paint! i know it sounds crazy; but acrylic paint is actually awesome for nail design. it drys super fast, and you can wipe it off with water if you make a mistake and dont want to take your nail polish off. i use these with acrylic paint brushes; or nail art paint brushes; and they work even better than regular nail polish. i LOVE these, and i also love the fact that you can mix the colors to get the exact one you want. also i love that they have different kinds of paint (neon, metallic, shiny, etc). these little bottles go about 1$ or less; the big ones are under 2$ and you can get them at any craft store; michaels; a.c. moore; walmart. A.c. moore has the BIGGEST color selection i've seen so far. they literally have every color you can think of; so its your best bet to go there. i think the prices are still somewhat the same there, as to going to someplace like walmart.
Second option is nail polish that is actually meant for nail art. the only difference between these and regular nail polishes is that they have a really thin brush. the kiss ones(pictured above) have really pretty colors; but they smell VERY strong, and the brush isnt as thin as other ones i've tried. also the color quality could be a little better, so i'll probably just stick to the colors i have from this brand.
these on the other hand are great! the smell is very min. they have alot of colors, and the brush is very good on them. i dont have too many colors from these because i tend to use the acrylic paint more than these, but im going to for sure stock up on more of these when i start doing my nails more often again(i've been getting lazy and just painting them).
as far as brushes go, its to your own discretion. you can get acrylic brushes in packs; or separates. its cheaper to get them in packs but then you get some in there that you have no use for. i've gotten pack ones and singles; packs range from 5-20 bucks; and singles range from 1-20+ dollars depending on the quality and type of brush you get. Again, these are sold in A.c. Moore, walmart, michaels, or any craft store; and they are usually in the same isle as the acrylic paint.
You can also get nail art brushes at the beauty supplies. these are a little more expensive but they work great. the one pictured above is a stippling brush from sallys beauty supply; and i think it ran me for 5-10 dollars. the beauty supply doesn't have a HUGE selection of them because they are all pretty similar brushes. i think there are about 5 to pick from, so the acrylic brushes give you more of a selection. these can be used with nail polish; or acrylic paint.
a good trick to use is acrylic tips. just like the nail salon, i do designs on these that i can keep for reference just in case i wanna do the look again, or even just for practice. for design ideas, i either come up with some on my own; or google around for some ideas.
All the designs above were done with acrylic paint with the exception of the yellow and black look(pictured above) which was done with the stripe rite nail art polish. if you guys try some nail art; send in your pictures and i'll post them up!

ULTA haul
SO, as i mentioned, i went to the ULTA store in Everette. I initially went because i wanted to try the NYX shadows and cosmetic line. When i got there i ran over to the nyx isle and egh...wasnt THAT blown away. Most of the nyx colors were very similar to mac colors i already had, so i tried to go for colors i needed. The one thing i did like was that they had every single brand nail polish; from essie, to china glaze, to opi, to revlon, and everything in between.
i LOVE these. the camera doesnt do them any justice because they are even better in person. the first color (pictured far left) is flip flop fantasy. its a bright pink/coral/orangie color, even though it looks pink in the picture. the middle one is shocking pink; and just like the name, it is a bright pink summer color. the last one, and my favorite is peachy keen. it is a really pretty pastel peach color. i loooooved all the colors they had, BUT i tried to limit myself to just 3...for now anyways.
next i went for some nyx shadows. i ended up only liking 3; which at the end worked in my favor because they were buy 2 get one. most of the colors they had were browns, and neutrals that i already had plenty of. the first color is "Atlantic"; in the picture it looks pretty bright, but in person it is a very dark blue.
this color is "Kiwi"; its a dark kiwi green, again it looks bright in the picture, but its a couple shades darker. its a gorgeous green by the way.
the last color is "lime green"; its a gorgeous green with a gold shimmer to it. i went a little green crazy because i didnt have alot of green eyeshadows besides the neon greenish one from mac. all in all im happy with everything. the nail polishes are adorable and summery; the eyeshadows are really pigmented gorgeous. im gonna be doing a review on the nyx shadows soon because they are truly good for their price. these ran me for about 5.99 a piece, and im not sure but i swear i saw them cheaper on the website. idk im gonna double check that. the people that worked at ulta were kinda snobish; that would be my only complaint; other than that it was a pretty big store and it had awesome stuff in it. its worth the checkitout!
On my way home i stopped at target to get something for my mom; and i grabbed these two crease brushes for 5.99 a piece; i got two of them because im a brush junkie and i rather have too many than not enough!

Acrylic Nail Art
doesn't nail art just look lovely sometimes? okay maybe ALL THE TIME. wait i take that back, over doing the nail art looks a bit tacky; but tasteful nail art is great. lately i ran into the problem that i had so many ideas for nail art but not enough colors to chose from when it came to those nail art polishes with the little thin wands. i thought long and hard; and since i am a graphic design...i have TONS of acrylic paint around my house from school and such. so i took one of my painting brushes and started doing something funky on my nail(i looked up on the Internet if this was safe for my nails first; and it is!! and always wear a base coat because it helps protect your nail from the pigment in polishes/paint!!) and i left it on for a couple days to see if it would last. couple days later...it still looked FAB. so this is my new trick for you guys!! polishes are sometimes hard to manipulate and you end up making a mess; acrylic paint comes right off with a wet napkin and wont disturb your base nail polish; and when your done seal it with some clear polish so it lasts longer. as far as brushes go; you can buy acrylic brushes; or they have nail art brushes at beauty supplies. you can get acrylic paint at pretty much any arts and craft store, or walmart. here are so colors i have lying around:
these four are "shiny" which means exactly as it sounds; they have a little more shine to them; this is more important for big details; but in the end a top shine coat of nail polish does the trick even if you dont get the shiny ones.
black; white; silver; and gold. have to have the metallics; and white and black are essential.
these are more varied colors; different shades; and just colors i thought were very pretty. the back ones are more fall/winter colors. and the front ones are spring/summer. i also have the primary colors so i can mix my own colors instead of having to buy every single color paint. again, you can get these at arts and craft store; walmart; i dont think i've seen any at target, but if im wrong then please correct me. go wild with these!! they pretty much have every shade and color you could possibly want and desire.
and last but not least; the neon colors which are greattttt on black nails...and pretty much on everything. these paints are super fun, they dry fast, dont smudge, and easier to manipulate with a brush than nail polish is. and not to mention you can try over and over again; all you need is a wet napkin; you CANT BEAT THAT!!

NAILS OF THE WEEK
so i had this little idea; since i change my nail color every week and i know some of you love nail polish as much as me; i'll post up my weekly looks! =) enjoy!

so, this is my lookie this week =) i la-la-la-love them. i've gotten plenty of compliments on them and i must say they look adorable. the nail polish is a Milani polish; egh one nail chipped; so im doubting that i'll buy Milani polish again; womp womp. but for the most part the color is very nice. here's the formula for these babies....
base coat: Sally double life base + top coat
polish: Milani nail polish in vivid yellow # 143
design: stripe rites in black
top coat: Sally double life base + top coat
and these are the results....

Essie Nail Polish review

Overall rating: 5/5
pros: cute color selection; goes on smooth; LASTS FOR DAYS!!; soft on nails; doesn't chip dramatically; looks great on nails; every color you can imagine, they got it!
cons: hmm not every one wants to dish out 8 dollars per nail polish but in my opinion you get your moneys worth because they are really good. only thing to look out for is that some of the colors are pretty sheer; so you have to do 3 - 4 coats; BUT the good thing is that no matter how many coats of this stuff i put on, it never got bulky, it still went on super smooth; and it looked as if i only had 2 coats on. i will for sure continue to buy from the Essie collection!
P.S. i waited a couple days to do this review to test out the durability of the nail polish and see how much chipping i was going to be dealing with.

Essie nail polish
so, i've seen essie nail polish plenty of times at target and what not; and i've wanted to buy some but sallys always grab my attention first since i already know their good. while at the movies at liberty tree mall; i stoped by trades secret on a mission to get some nail polish and i fell in LOVE.
they are both gorgeous; for 8 dollars where ever essies are sold near you. target has them but not as many color options. you can try online, or any beauty product stores at the mall. the greenish color is "mint candy apple"; the purpleish color is "looking for love". essie retails for $8.00 a piece.
