In times of recession...

So, at home, me and my siblings have this insider. Every time my mom is frugal about anything, or wont get them something, or plain old doesn't want to do something she always says "we are in the plan of recession" lol. its basically her excuse to be stingy with us lol. it has stuck and now we say it at least once a day lol. Randomly that gave me an idea for a post lol. I know that makeup gets expensive, and maybe people like me(that actually want to do it professionally) don't mind the constant spending on it, but i know that if i didn't want to do makeup free lance i would HATE to have to cough up so much money on it. I'm gonna do a break down on what you guys can go lower in price with, and what is worth coughing up big bucks for. I hope this post helps that one person out there that wont wear makeup because she/he thinks they cant afford MAC, MUFE, NARS, ETC.

WHAT IS WORTH SPENDING HARD CASH ON?
The number one thing you want to get your moneys worth on is foundation, concealer(regular + under eye), and face powders. There are many reasons why:
  • you can actually try the higher end ones out at the makeup counters; etc; and you can have someone help you get your exact color.
  • better color quality, and better ingredients
  • blends in smoother for a more flawless finish
  • more color options
  • better for your skin

WHAT CAN YOU GO TO THE CHEAPER END FOR?

Eye shadows, blush, lip sticks, lip glosses, some primers, eyeliners, mascaras, etc; these things can be found for a lower price without having to compromise on quality. There are many different brands out there that offer good color payoff when it comes to their products, without having to go over on your makeup budget!

WHATS UP TO YOU?

Personally, i think that whether you want to spend alot of a little on brushes is completely up to you. There is no wrong or right way to shop for brushes, and to apply makeup. Personally i tend to go with higher end brushes for my face, and lower end ones for eyeshadow. When you apply your face products you want to make sure you use a good quality brush that will give you that airbrushed, flawless finish. As for eye shadows, those depend more on the color payoff of the actual eyeshadow, more than the quality of the brush. Its obvious that as with everything in life, you will get what you pay for. You cant expect a mac brush to work as well as a drug store brush. Use your budget to determine how much you can spend, and go with that. If you are planning on using your brushes everyday, or if you want to enter the makeup artistry world, i suggest you spend good cash on your brushes because that way you will have to replace them less often, and they will last longer.

Mac haul

Its funny, i went to Macy's to get my bobby brown book, and before i even got the book, MAC reeled me in lol. I got a couple things there, but the one I'm most excited about is this...

I asked one of the girls for an eye chart. finally. i always seem to forget, but this time i remembered right before i left. she gladly gave me a couple. i actually just wanted one so i could photocopy them at staples or something because these aren't made of regular paper. eye charts come in super handy when planning a look for someone, or just keeping looks for your own portfolio.

On to my purchased goodies! i only got 4 things but i swear the total made me feel like i got way more lol. mac should really consider the pockets of people like me who go there often. idk maybe a discount card or something?

I picked up some blushes because out of everything i have, blush is what i have least of. I loveeee it, but since my Dior one is so good, i didnt want to betray it. I fell in love with these two and a couple more but, i decided to just get two for now.

I ended up going with Pink Swoon; and Peaches.

These two colors are gorgeoussss; pictures dont do them justice.

I have been looking everywhere like a mad woman for the perfect peach blush; and let me tell you this is itttttt. It goes so perfect with my skin and makes me look flawless; i absolutely love it so much. Soooooooooo worth my money.

This pink one is similar to my Dior one, which is maybe why i liked it so much? but its not exactly the same, which is why i still got it. Out of all the pink ones this was my favorite. There are a couple more blushes i wanted to get, but i'll go back for those later.

I also bought two lippies that i tried on and loved.

MAC honeylove

MAC hue

Hue is the perfect peach lip! and it looks great with my peach blush. I love, love, LOVE it. and i might get another tube because I'm sure this is gonna go fast. Honey love gives me a perfect nude lip. these two lippies are worth my money and much, much more.

MAC "to the beach" haul

As promised! this is my lovely "to the beach" by mac summer collection haul! i made the video, but for some reason the audio was lost. next best thing i guess will be this post. its not as good as a video but bare with me because my web cam isn't the best quality anyways!! so anyways, i got up bright and early for this collection because i didn't want to run the risk of anything that i wanted selling out lol. i pretty much did like 80mph to the mall, and umm didn't let anyone cross the damn st; i was in that much of a hurry lol. when i got there and looked at everything i was like....what?! things looked so different in person; womp womp! some things looked better, some things didn't look like they would look good on me. i literally tried EVERYTHING on because i was gonna buy things without making sure they looked good on me first. i had a list of everything i wanted to get; but that flew out the window the minute i noticed the peach lipstick had gold in it; and the peach lip gloss had blue sparkles. me and blue sparkles don't mix lol; and neither do me and gold lipsticks, i pretty much looked like a crackhead with it. womp womp because it looked gorgeous in pictures online. any who; i threw the list away into my purse and tried everything on one by one.

these; are the lovely things i ended up getting. i thought i was only going to get the beach collection stuff since i wanted everythinggggg from it; but since i ended up not liking everything; i strayed into some of the non limited stuff. i kept in mind that i was doing someones makeup the next day and decided to get some shadows for that; and a fix plus spray which ive wanted for the longest!! from the beach collection i ended up getting; a bronzer, a blush, two eye pencils, two lip glosses, one lip stick, two shadows, and one of the nail polishes. i was shaky about the polish because it was 12.50(i think, or just 12); but either way that's on the expensive side. i ended up getting it because i wanted no regrets when i got home. lol

i only got two of the 5 shadows becauseeeeeeee the other 2 i would of wanted(Shimmermoss and Humid) arent limited edition, so i could wait on those. i AM going to go back and get them in either the summer packaging or the regular packaging. i got "fire cracker" and "sweet and punchy". the last one, sand and sun didnt even show up on my skin, so i didnt even bother with it. Fire Cracker is a red coral color, and "sweet and punchy" is a bright yellow green. both are super pigmented and GORGEOUS! highly recommend those two for the summer. really fun colors.

nextttttttttttttttttttttt i moved on to lipsticks. i had planned to get the peach and the pink lipstick; but EGH ME NO LIKEY DA PEACH LIPSTICK! i was so dissapointed because i already had this whole bronzed goddess with peach lips look in my head, but womp womp, i had to let that go. i got the pink lipstick instead called "lazy day".

its a gorgeous blue pink!!! i have another blue pink lipstick but sometimes it gets a little too light and i end up having to put gloss over it; BUT this one is perfecttttt. i had a total barbie moment when i put it on lol and i knew at that exact moment that me and "lazy day" were made for one another lol. oh and umm how cute is the tube?

i planned to get all 3 lipglosses because they looked fierce in pictures; but the peach one had blue sparkles in it and it did NOTHING for me at all; so i got these two; "Easy Lounger" which is a light baby pink with silver tint sparkles, sheer by the way. and i also got "Splashing" which is blue pink; but not as sheer as the other one, more of a lipglass(yes, lipglass, as in high pigmented lipglosses from mac). i thought twice about "splashing" because i already had the blue pink lipstick; but it was so pretty that i couldnt pass up. you can NEVER have too many lipglosses lol thats my policy!

i HAD decided against getting the nail polishes because 12 was wayyyyy too much for nail polish. the most i do it 8 for OPI's and thats because they are damn good, and even though mac ones are too; i just didnt want to dish out so much for these. once i got there all that changed; i HAD to have this color. its more of an avocado green in person, it is just gorgeous and i've never seen another color like it. i pictured it on me and i decided i couldnt leave with out this "in the buff" nail polish, no matter what the price!

even though i didnt want to get any more bronzers; i decided to get one because the color was so nice, and the packaging lol. im a sucker, yes!. im actually very glad i got this though, i tried it on at the store and fell in love with it. it looks very natural, and so summery! i got the darker one of the two because its summer, i tan, and the other one wouldnt show up as good as this one. if your darker skined i suggest passing up on these; because they are very light, and the darker of the two just made it in with me.

i saw pictures of the "float on by" eye pencil and fell in love with it right away, it made my list the second i saw it online. the other color i wasnt too wow about(Rosemary and thyme); but when i saw it in person and tried it on my skin it looked amazing. i decided not to skip on it even though it was 14.50 because i knew i wasnt gonna find another color like it, and if i did, it wouldnt be the same. i rather not run into the risk of going out and looking and having this pencil sell out, so i grabbbbbbbed it! they are both so gorgeous! float on by is a really pretty aqua blue color, and rosemary and thyme is a rich olive gold color. the eye pencil decorations are adorable as well lol.

its very similar to the decoration on the bronzer. im a sucker for this line in general, i really debated being a good girl and not blowing crazy money, BUT its summer and you only live once lol, so i went for it. im not crazy about every single line that comes out, but theres something about this summer one that i just loved.

here is a shot of the two eyeshadows outside of the packaging. gorgeous right?
(fire cracker on the left; and sweet and punchy on the right)

moving on from the beach line(because everything that i didnt get isnt worth talking about lol) i got my fix plus FINALLY!!! i actually used it on my prom look, and im going to ask ivanna how her makeup lasted throughout the night. this stuff is so multi use its crazy, i love it already! this is a MUST MUST MUST specially in this hot summer weather. if you guys dont know what this is, or what its for, im going to do a post on it very soon! i actually had fix plus used on me when i went to mac to do my makeup for prom and let me tell you guys i went to sleep with my makeup on(i know, very bad!), and the next day when i woke up it looked like i JUST had it done. i was so amazed; i think thats when my love for mac really really began lol.

i got the blushie!! im a sucker for baby pink blushes; and umm blushes in general lol. this one is called "hipness"; and its....hipness lol. i love it. goes on so pretty! and doesnt give you that blobby overly pink cheeks look. its a little darker than pictured btw. im telling you, i was amazed at how different things looked in person. so, i dont suggest online shopping unless your a comformist and are sattisfied with what ever you get.

since i thought i was going to get wayyyy more stuff from the summer line; i decided to get 3 new shadows for the makeup prom look i was going to be doing. i forget the names of these by heart; i know the silver one is "silver ring" because i had been eyeing it for a while; the other two, if you really want to know just leave a comment and ask; or i'll include the names in a later blog. all 3 colors are gorgeous and so multi use.

At the end of my shopping, i was extremly satisfied! i loved every single thing i got, and even though it was good money, its money well spent because i truly enjoy working with makeup, and i feel like its never money badly spent when it comes to something for myself. i truly deserve everything i get myself, specially after these past rough months! so for sure i was happy! a little let down that i didnt get my peach lipsticks but pink was the next best thing lol. DID YOU GUYS GET ANY MAC TO THE BEACH?!!!

The big MAC vs. MUFE

if you know the least bit about makeup you know that.....each line is GREAT when it comes to specific things. for example; mac is awesome with lip gloss and lipsticks; MUFE(make up for ever) is great with foundations and primers; Chanel has an awesome skin care line; etc. there is no one line that is amazing at it all. makeup is different for every one and everyone looks different in it. this is why i cant stress enough to NOT LET YOURSELF BECOME A BRAND NAME WHORE WHEN IT COMES TO MAKEUP. i see alot of these blogs and youtube channels and all they talk about is mac this, mac that!! yes, mac has great products; and brushes; and eyeshadows; BUT SO DO ALOT OF OTHER BRANDS. make up for ever is a perfect example of that. if you look around the Internet; or go into your local sephora and ask to have your face matched up with MUFE you will see what i mean. i tried on their concealer powder and primer and i found it to be 20 times better than macs. i also noticed that their eye shadows are just as pigmented and their color options are great. so whats the lesson to be learned here? dont buy products just because of their name, buy them because they look great on you. at the end of the day; they are on going on YOUR face, or your clients; and a brand name wont matter because you cant tell who's wearing what when it comes to makeup. lines like MUFE, dior, urban decay; etc, dont get as much recognition as they should because mac has a big fan base. im not saying to not purchase mac; because i surely do; im just saying to be open minded to the art that is MAKEUP and to not stick to one brand simply because of its name. in the end you deserve to get what you pay for and thats all that truly matters.
